The Darling Downs-Moreton Rabbit Board (DDMRB) is a State Government agency responsible for keeping 28,000 km2 of South East Queensland free of rabbits, including the maintenance of a 555 km rabbit barrier fence.
The DDMRB relies on reliable, fit-for-purpose vehicles to undertake this task across a variety of challenging landscapes and through inclement weather conditions. In order to ensure adequate provision and management of fleet assets to enable DDMRB to fulfil its service obligations, they engaged GenEng to conduct a fleet review and develop an Asset Management Plan to guide the overarching management of fleet assets.
Approach
The review methodology involved understanding the service delivery and the demand for appropriate vehicles and ancillary equipment to provide safe and efficient support in field operations. Analysis was undertaken of the most appropriate vehicles taking into account the accessibility to the fence location with repair materials and equipment. Given the remote nature of the work sites, safety and reliability were critical inputs to the analysis. A fleet replacement program was developed for the transitioning to a sustainable fleet supply in future budgets.
A detailed Asset Management (AMP) Plan was developed by GenEng following the Board’s acceptance of the Fleet Review Report. The AMP provided a fleet disposal and replacement program, budget planning information for sustainable service delivery, and an asset management improvement plan.
Outcome
Provision of a fit-for-purpose fleet to deliver a considered service in a safe and efficient manner. The Board has a plan for a sustainable fleet operation that it can rely on while performing their work to protect the environment from the damage caused by rabbit infestations.
